Compress a PDF to 1 MB without uploading
Choose the mode that matches the file. Scan mode re-renders pages as compressed images and can get much smaller; keep-text mode only cleans structure, so text stays selectable but savings are modest.
How it works
- Choose a PDF and pick Scan or Keep text.
- For scans, wait while each page is rendered and re-encoded toward the 1 MB budget.
- Check the final size, open the result, then download. Keep the original if you need selectable text.
Frequently asked questions
Which mode should I choose?
If the PDF is a scan or photos of pages, use Scan. If you need to select, copy or search text, use Keep text. Always check the result before sharing it.
Will scan mode remove the text?
Yes. Scan mode turns each page into an image, so text, links, forms and annotations are no longer selectable. Keep the original if those matter.
Why did Keep text barely shrink?
Most text PDFs are already efficient. This mode only removes metadata and repacks objects; it does not downsample images, because that would damage quality.
Can it hit exactly 1 MB?
It gets as close as the content allows. Detailed scans may stay above 1 MB at a readable quality. The result reports the real final size instead of hiding it.
Are encrypted PDFs supported?
No. Password-protected files are rejected because the browser cannot open them. Remove the password first.
What it can't do
- Scan mode loses selectable text, links, forms and bookmarks.
- Keep-text mode cannot promise a specific size; it is structure cleanup, not image downsampling.
- Scans are capped at 40 pages and large files are limited by browser memory.
